CLEMSON’S HARRIS A. SMITH BUILDING AWARDED GOLD
MOUNT PLEASANT, SC: The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded LEED Gold certification to Clemson University’s new Harris A. Smith Building. The certification is of particular significance to the Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design & Graphics located in the new facility, as one of its main focuses is on incorporating environmentally sustainable design into packaging. SeamonWhiteside + Associates (SW+A) provided master planning, civil engineering and landscape architectural services for the project. Project architect, Lord, Aeck & Sargent was notified by the USGBC that the 28,000 ft.2 building earned 43 LEED credits, qualifying for Gold level certification.

This is the second project that SW+A has provided professional engineering and design services to Clemson University that has achieved LEED Gold certification. In 2009, the CU-ICAR AutoPark in Greenville was awarded Gold status.

SeamonWhiteside + Associates is a multiple award-winning land planning, civil engineering, landscape architecture, and urban design firm with offices in Mount Pleasant and Greenville, SC. The firm is celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2010.
